For the Crust:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix applesauce, sugar, oil, and eggs until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Fold in walnuts if using.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
