Cabbage Roll Casserole

Description

A deconstructed version of classic cabbage rolls, layered with ground beef, rice, and tomato sauce for a comforting one-dish meal.

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small head cabbage, chopped
  • 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown ground beef with onion and garlic over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add chopped cabbage, rice, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  4. Transfer mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover tightly with foil.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes or until rice is tender. Remove foil, sprinkle with cheese, and bake uncovered for 5 more minutes until cheese melts.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
