Description

Festive sugar cookies perfect for holiday baking, featuring a buttery dough rolled in sugar and decorated with festive sprinkles.


Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Additional granulated sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Shape dough into 1-inch balls and roll in additional granulated sugar.
  7. Place on prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden. Cool on wire racks.

Notes

These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week. For a festive touch, add red or green food coloring to the dough.
