For the Crust:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups hot water
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Add milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Stir until well combined.
- Fold in chopped pecans, then spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
- Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the batter, then carefully pour hot water over the top (do not stir).
- Bake for 30 minutes or until the top is set but the center remains gooey. Let cool slightly before serving.
