For the Crust:

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 (3.4 oz) package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 (8 oz) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 cup chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Prepare chocolate cake according to package directions in a 9×13-inch baking pan. Allow to cool completely.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk pudding mix with cold milk until thickened. Fold in half of the whipped topping.
  3. Spread pudding mixture evenly over the cooled cake. Top with remaining whipped topping.
  4. Spoon cherry pie filling over the whipped topping layer. Sprinkle with chocolate shavings if desired.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
