Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1–2 tbsp strong brewed chai tea, cooled

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and all chai spices. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk milk, egg, and vanilla. Stir into dry ingredients until just combined. Turn onto floured surface and knead gently 4-5 times.
  4. Pat dough into a 1-inch thick circle. Cut into 8 wedges and place on prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden. Cool slightly.
  5. For glaze, whisk powdered sugar, maple syrup, and chai tea until smooth. Drizzle over warm scones. Serve immediately.
