A classic New Orleans dessert made with French bread, rich custard, and a decadent whiskey sauce.

For the Crust:
- 1 loaf French bread (stale, cut into cubes)
- 4 cups whole milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup whiskey or bourbon
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Add bread cubes and raisins (if using) to the mixture. Let soak for 15 minutes, pressing down occasionally.
- Pour mixture into the prepared baking dish. Drizzle melted butter over the top.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until set and golden brown.
- Meanwhile, make the sauce: In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, whiskey, and heavy cream. Simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Serve bread pudding warm with the whiskey sauce drizzled on top.
