Swedish Meatballs

  • Author: Chef Emy

Description

Classic Swedish meatballs served with a creamy gravy sauce, perfect over mashed potatoes or egg noodles.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a bowl, soak breadcrumbs in milk for 5 minutes. Add ground beef, ground pork, egg, onion, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Form the mixture into small meatballs (about 1 inch in diameter).
  3. Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook meatballs until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes. Remove meatballs and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, whisk flour into the remaining butter. Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly until smooth. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Stir in heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce. Return meatballs to the skillet and simmer for 5-10 minutes until sauce thickens.
  6. Serve hot over mashed potatoes or egg noodles.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
