Description

These festive sugar cookies are perfect for holiday decorating with sprinkles, icing, or royal icing. They are soft, sweet, and easy to make for Christmas celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • Food coloring or Sprinkles for decorating

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough in half, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters.
  8. Place shapes on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Decorate with icing, sprinkles, or food coloring as desired.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. Dough can be frozen for up to 3 months.
