Description
These festive sugar cookies are perfect for holiday decorating with sprinkles, icing, or royal icing. They are soft, sweet, and easy to make for Christmas celebrations.

- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- Food coloring or Sprinkles for decorating
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough in half, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters.
- Place shapes on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
- Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Decorate with icing, sprinkles, or food coloring as desired.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. Dough can be frozen for up to 3 months.
