Description

A simple and flavorful Indian butter chicken recipe perfect for beginners, made with tender chicken in a rich, creamy tomato-based sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups tomato puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Fresh coriander for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, mix chicken with yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Cook the chicken: In a large pan, heat 1 tablespoon butter over medium heat. Add marinated chicken and cook until browned, about 10-15 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. Prepare the sauce: In the same pan, add remaining butter. Sauté onion until golden. Add tomato puree and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Combine and simmer: Stir in the cooked chicken, cream, and any remaining marinade. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until sauce thickens.
  5. Garnish and serve: Garnish with coriander and serve hot with naan or rice.

Notes

Adjust spice levels to taste. Use skinless chicken for a healthier option.
