For the Crust:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
- 2 tbsp fresh thyme leaves
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 1-inch meatballs.
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over onions and stir for 1 minute. Gradually add beef broth, stirring until smooth. Bring to a simmer.
- Add meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
- Preheat broiler. Transfer meatballs and gravy to an oven-safe dish, top with Gruyère cheese, and broil until cheese is melted and bubbly. Garnish with thyme before serving.
