For the Crust:
- 8 oz penne pasta
- 1 lb ground Italian sausage
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- In a large pot or deep skillet, brown the Italian sausage over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the marinara sauce, water, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- Add the penne pasta to the pot, stirring to combine. Cover and simmer for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender.
- Preheat the broiler. Top the pasta with mozzarella cheese, pepperoni slices, and Parmesan cheese.
- Place the pot under the broiler for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve immediately.
