Description

Bibimbap is a colorful, nutritious, and delicious Korean dish of rice topped with seasoned vegetables, meat, and egg, served with a sweet and savory gochujang sauce.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups cooked rice
  • 1/2 pound beef (ribeye or sirloin), thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 cup carrots, julienned
  • 1 cup zucchini, julienned
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1 cup bean sprouts
  • 4 ounces shiitake mushrooms, sliced
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons gochujang (Korean red pepper paste)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the rice according to package instructions and set aside.
  2. Marinate the beef with soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and garlic for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Blanch the carrots, spinach, bean sprouts, and zucchini separately in boiling water for 1-2 minutes, then drain and season with salt and sesame oil.
  4. Sauté the mushrooms in a bit of oil until tender, about 5 minutes.
  5. Cook the marinated beef in a hot pan with oil for 2-3 minutes until browned.
  6. Fry the eggs sunny-side up in the same pan.
  7. To assemble, divide the rice into bowls, top with vegetables, beef, and an egg. Add a dollop of gochujang, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and mix before eating.

Notes

Customize with your favorite vegetables. For vegetarian version, omit the beef.
