For the Crust:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons pink food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. Add vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, pink food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar. Mix until smooth.
  4. Divide batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  5. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Frost with cream cheese frosting once cooled.
